2018
Joris buys a boat
Joris van Oers went to live on a houseboat, and well, of course that includes a small boat. Sailing his boat soon became a hobby of his and almost every day in good weather he could be found on the water with friends. "On the water, you see the city in a completely different way and there is always something going on. Many an innocent boat ride ended in a fun party on the water."

2021
An idea emerges
After many laps through the canals with friends, Joris gets an idea: "What if I can let others experience this too?" Not a boring canal cruise, but enjoying the City, the sun and a cold drink with friends, family or colleagues. Another boat was bought for hire with room for around 30 people. Thus 'Bootje Speciaal' was born - slightly different and extra special.

2022
Bootje Speciaal is a success!
It soon turns out that more people enjoy sailing around Groningen's canals. The concept of boat hire, in a cosy, relaxed atmosphere, proved a success! Encouraged by the many requests and the nice reactions, a third boat was purchased.

2023
Partners get on board
With the rapid growth of Bootje Speciaal, the company quickly evolves from a hobby that got out of hand into a serious business employing more and more people. In addition to cruises for groups, Bootje Speciaal also starts organising events on the water.

2024
A floating terrace!
Together with two friends and fellow catering and boating enthusiasts, Stephan and Melvin Rijpkema, the idea for a floating terrace was born. The old canal boat from the Zuidlaardermeer will get a complete makeover and a convertible roof and be transformed into Groningen's first floating terrace.

2026
Bootje Speciaal continues to grow
Bootje Speciaal has grown into a large company with a team of owners, skippers, bar staff and marketing specialists. And the fleet continues to grow: the latest addition is a low-level tour boat with room for 75 people.
